MSSC Propaganda and Public Affairs Efforts
Outside of surveilling civil rights activities across the state of Mississippi, MSSC also participated in discrimination and propaganda campaigns against its black citizens. From promoting voter discrimination to failing to condemn violence against African Americans, MSSC was accused of helping to generate opposition to civil rights in the state. This collection also includes concerns by citizens over MSSC.

Investigation of Civil Rights Activities at Colleges and Universities
The Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission conducted a series of investigations surrounding the integration of state and national universities. Among these investigations include the attempted enrollment of Clyde Kennard and John Frazier at the University of Southern Mississippi. This collection includes documents from these types of investigations as well as surveillance of students and professors who participated in civil rights demonstrations.

Surveillance of Civil Rights Organizations in Mississippi
Throughout the Civil Rights era, the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission regularly surveilled black rights organizations across the state. These organizations included the NAACP, the Mississippi Delta Ministry, and the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party--to name a few. The documents in this collection highlight reports to MSSC on the meetings, activity, and strength of these organizations.

Surveillance of Civil Rights Activists
Throughout the Civil Rights era, the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission regularly surveilled black rights leaders who were either from Mississippi or traveling across the state for demonstrations and/or meetings. This collection highlights investigations and reports into civil rights leaders such as Medgar Evers and Fannie Lou Hamer.
