The Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission

MSSC Propaganda and Public Affairs Efforts

Outside of surveilling civil rights activities across the state of Mississippi, MSSC also participated in discrimination and propaganda campaigns against its black citizens. From promoting voter discrimination to failing to condemn violence against African Americans, MSSC was accused of helping to generate opposition to civil rights in the state. This exhibit also includes concerns by citizens over MSSC.
