From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Mississippi State Penitentiary (Parchman) Photograph Collection (PI/1996.0006). Black-and-white photograph of men in the background in a cotton field. One man in the photo’s left side is wearing a hat and a dark vest over a striped shirt while holding a rifle. In the rest of the image, there are at least twenty-five men with hats in either white or striped shirts, carrying shoulder bags and picking cotton.
