Detailed Description
From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Mississippi State Penitentiary (Parchman) Photographs (PI/PEN/P37.4). Black-and-white photograph of black and white men in a field baling alfalfa. Some are standing behind or next to a large, unbaled pile of alfalfa towards the image’s left side, while, in the image’s right side, others stand on baled alfalfa and one black man stands in the bed of a truck. One man is tossing loose alfalfa into the machine with a pitchfork. The men are wearing hats with either shirts and pants or shirts and overalls. There is a dense tree line in the image’s background.
