From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History's Thomas Foner Freedom Summer Papers (Z/2312). Tom writes about where he is stationed in Mississippi, about its population, and recent events that occurred shortly after his arrival, including individuals shooting into houses, the Freedom House bombed, intimidation attempts and violence by civilians and police, the missing civil rights workers (Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner). He includes how volunteers and workers have been received, such as his near-arrest. Tom discusses that the workers and Black community have been boycotting businesses, and the impact so far, including a commendation from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
